Poetry and song were once inextricably entwined. Both play with the sounds, breath, and emotions of what it means to be alive, and the study of each connects and deepens our experience of the other. Workshops explore writing original work, reading, listening, discussing, memorizing, and learning to evoke poetry for an audience.

In this space, we nurture an intellectual, experimental, and supportive environment to express ourselves through humor, sincerity, passion — as ourselves. Workshops may be themed, and emphasis distributed across a wide variety of canonized, contemporary, and experimental poets of various genres, ages, and styles. When accessible, poetry in translation and foreign language poetry will also be read and written.

Workshops culminate in hand-made booklets and a recital for participants, friends, and family!

SPECIAL: Wednesday July 3rd will include a field trip to Butterfly Beach and attendance at a vocal masterclass at the Music Academy of the West Summer Festival!
