Voice Lessons

Ages: 8yrs - 18yrs
Duration: 45min Voice + 15min Musicianship

“When a singer truly feels and experiences what the music is all about, the words will automatically ring true.”
— Monserrat Caballé

Singing connects us to our heart and brings deep joy and confidence to both singer and listener. Lessons focus on repertoire-building; healthy, vocal technique; diction; expression and communication; performance; and exposure to a variety of musical styles, genres, and languages. In addition, early vocal training teaches musical and linguistic structure, a musical ear, connects the brain to vocal production, and fosters self-expression and self-confidence.

The voice is a muscle, so must be treated with care, particularly during youth. For this reason, lessons focus on fundamental, gentle, vocal technique that sets a solid groundwork for a healthy, natural voice, and the advanced vocal technique and musical demands of teen, adult, and professional singing.

Wildwood utilizes a hybrid of classical Bel Canto technique focused on breath, power, and virtuosity; with the modern approach of Heart-Based Singing, a blending of science, anatomy, natural energy patterns, and flow. Together, these techniques build a solid foundation and refine all types of singing including classical, musical theater, and modern styles.

All singers deserve to be skilled musicians, able to read their music, learn their songs, and grow as collaborative artists. But as singers, we're often not taught the basic piano, music reading, and ear training skills that organically come with being an instrumentalist. These are just as integral to singing, leaving us underprepared as musicians, lacking in collaborative skills and reliant on recordings to learn our music. The musicianship portion of lessons covers the basics of music reading, keyboard identification, rhythm, sight-stinging, and dictation ear training. Music theory and musicianship are the building blocks of the language of music. Through them, we learn to listen and hear, master our songs, and express ourselves.

These fundamentals set a solid groundwork for a healthy, natural voice.
